Theo Hourmouzis becomes Anthropic’s new General Manager for Australia and New Zealand, marking a new phase of engagement in the region. This week, the company officially opens its new Sydney office, signaling its commitment to regional expansion.
Theo Hourmouzis brings over 20 years of leadership experience in the technology industry from the Asia-Pacific region to Anthropic. Most recently, he served as Senior Vice President at Snowflake for Australia, New Zealand and Southeast Asia, where he supported businesses and public institutions in the financial services, retail, aviation and government sectors in moving artificial intelligence from the experimentation phase to measurable business value.
At Anthropic, Hourmouzis will lead the growing local team and develop a strategy focused on Australian and New Zealand customers. His focus is on integrating Claude into their most critical workflows.
“Organizations in Australia and New Zealand are thinking carefully about AI adoption and seeking partners who take safety and rigor as seriously as they take opportunity,” said Hourmouzis. “That’s what drew me to Anthropic – the companies that succeed with AI combine bold ambitions with rigorous discipline.”
The expanded regional team will intensify collaboration with organizations such as Commonwealth Bank and Quantium, as well as with partners in the field of AI science, including the Australian National University, the Murdoch Children’s Research Institute, the Garvan Institute of Medical Research and Curtin University. At the same time, it will advance on the commitments from the letter of intent recently signed with the Australian government.
Chris Ciauri, International Managing Director at Anthropic, emphasized: “Theo’s appointment reflects our shared belief with the Australian government that AI can drive economic growth when developed and deployed responsibly. With his experience, he will build the team and partnerships that will support our customers in Australia and New Zealand for the long term.”
