The gist: Anthropic opens its sixth European office in Milan, expanding its presence. The team will work with Italian companies and research institutions to responsibly deploy Claude – supported by partnerships with industry leaders such as Generali, Enel, and Satispay.
AI safety company Anthropic is opening its sixth European office in Milan. The new office will support Italian businesses, researchers, and developers in the responsible use of Claude and contribute to a broader conversation about artificial intelligence in industry and society.
Anthropic is expanding its European network with a location in Milan, which alongside London, Dublin, Paris, Zurich, and Munich represents the sixth office on the continent. Under the leadership of Thomas Remy, Anthropic’s Head of Southern Europe, the local team is already working with leading Italian companies – including the Generali Group and Unipol Group in the financial sector, Angelini Pharma and the Bracco Group in biosciences, Enel Group in the energy sector, and Pirelli in the automotive industry.
The opening coincides with the release of “Magnifica Humanitas,” the first papal encyclical from Pope Leo XIV, which explicitly addresses artificial intelligence. Anthropic co-founder Chris Olah spoke at the presentation and discussed the ethical questions arising from AI.
Concrete success stories already demonstrate Claude’s impact in Italy: Fintech company Satispay has introduced Claude to its engineering teams, compressing an 18-month roadmap into seven months. Technology company Bending Spoons uses Claude as a co-author for the majority of its code changes. Anthropic has also partnered with JAKALA, a leading European data and AI company, to deploy Claude across over 3,000 workplaces – freeing up approximately 70 percent of senior employees’ time for more challenging tasks.
Anthropic is also making progress in the creative sector: During Milan Design Week, the team conducted a workshop with Alcova Milano, demonstrating to design professionals how Claude supports their work processes.
Chris Ciauri, MD International at Anthropic, emphasizes the commitment: “We are here to support Italian business, Italian research, and Italian culture through a safe AI transition.” The company stresses that shaping the AI transformation cannot be the task of the technology sector alone, but requires voices from industry, civil society, and established institutions.
