SpaceX Leases Computing Capacity to Anthropic for $1.25 Billion Monthly

Bottom line: SpaceX leases computing capacity to Anthropic for $1.25 billion per month until May 2029 while simultaneously using the infrastructure for its own Grok 5 AI model.

SpaceX has entered into a cloud services agreement with AI research company Anthropic, granting Anthropic access to computing resources in SpaceX’s COLOSSUS and COLOSSUS II infrastructure. Anthropic pays $1.25 billion per month for this until May 2029.

According to documentation published in SpaceX’s S-1 filing, the parties entered into the agreement in May 2026. Computing capacity is being rolled out in stages: in May and June 2026, Anthropic pays reduced fees, after which the full rate of $1.25 billion per month applies.

SpaceX uses the same infrastructure (particularly COLOSSUS II) in parallel for training its own AI application, Grok 5. The company thus describes a hybrid model: utilizing computing resources for developing its own products while simultaneously leasing capacity to external customers.

The contract is terminable by either party with 90 days’ notice, but provides Anthropic with planning security spanning three years. This reflects demand for specialized computing power for large-scale AI training at a time when corresponding GPU and TPU capacity is scarce.
