The bottom line: Microsoft confirms that a macOS security update is causing annoying, non-closeable location prompts in Teams. The company is working on a solution and recommends manual configuration in macOS settings as a workaround.
Microsoft has confirmed that the collaboration app Teams is displaying non-closeable location prompts on some macOS systems. The company attributes a recent operating system security update to preventing location permissions from being saved.
Affected Teams users report that non-closeable prompts are appearing on Mac devices running macOS 14 (Sonoma), 15 (Sequoia), and 26 (Tahoe), requesting access to GPS and Wi-Fi location data. One user reports that the prompt has been appearing since May 14, 2026, and immediately reopens after repeatedly clicking “Don’t Allow.”
Microsoft has confirmed the issue in an incident report (TM1315837) and explains that a recent macOS security update is preventing the storage of location permissions for Teams. The company is working with Apple to understand the problem and develop a solution. Simultaneously, work is underway on a fix within Teams itself.
The issue affects only certain Teams users on Mac who have enabled location access in Teams settings. Until a fix is implemented, affected users are advised to manually enable location access for Microsoft Teams in macOS settings: System Settings > Privacy & Security > Location Services, then toggle Microsoft Teams and Microsoft Teams ModuleHost on and off.
Microsoft has not yet disclosed which regions are affected or how many users are impacted by the error. The company is labeling the incident as an Advisory, a designation for service issues with limited scope.
