Claude Code 2.1.170: Fable 5 Model Now Available, Session Storage Fixed

The point: Claude Fable 5 (Mythos-class) is now available as of Claude Code 2.1.170; a session storage bug when launching from VS Code has been fixed.

Anthropic is providing Claude Fable 5, a new Mythos-class model, available from Claude Code 2.1.170 onwards. The version also fixes a bug where sessions did not store transcripts when Claude Code was launched from the VS Code terminal or a shell with inherited environment variables.

With Claude Code 2.1.170, Anthropic is introducing Claude Fable 5, a Mythos-class model that has been released for general use. According to Anthropic, Fable’s capabilities exceed those of all previously publicly available models from the company.

For engineers, this means access to advanced capabilities directly in the development environment, provided they update to version 2.1.170. The technical improvements of the model can be applied immediately in code completion, debugging, and architecture discussions.

A practical fix concerns session management: Previously, Claude Code did not save transcripts and did not display them in resume mode when the tool was launched from the integrated VS Code terminal or a shell with inherited Claude Code environment variables. This behavior is now corrected, so sessions are reliably persisted and can be recalled with the --resume flag.
