Anthropic Signs $200 Million Partnership with Gates Foundation

The bottom line: Anthropic and the Gates Foundation announce a global $200 million partnership to deploy artificial intelligence in health, education, and economic mobility to support millions of people in lower-income countries.

Anthropic is cooperating with the Gates Foundation in a four-year program and providing $200 million in the form of grants, Claude usage credits and technical support for projects in global health, biosciences, education and economic mobility.

The partnership between Anthropic and the Gates Foundation aims to strategically deploy artificial intelligence in areas that the market does not serve on its own. The program will be implemented through Anthropic’s Beneficial Deployments Team, which provides Claude credits, technical support and discounted access rights to nonprofits and educational institutions.

A key focus is on global health and biosciences. The initiative concentrates on improving health outcomes in low- and middle-income countries, where approximately 4.6 billion people lack access to basic health services. Anthropic will collaborate with the Gates Foundation to accelerate the development of innovative vaccines and treatments and help governments leverage health data for faster and more effective decision-making.

The company is developing connectors that give Claude direct access to other platforms and tools, as well as evaluation frameworks to assess AI performance on health-related tasks. Additionally, Anthropic will work with health ministries to leverage data for decision-making in areas such as workforce development, supply chain management, and outbreak detection. The collaboration also aims to improve support for frontline health workers and patients in diagnosis, treatment, and medical decision-making.
