Bottom line: Deutsche Telekom and Palo Alto Networks jointly operate a security platform on European infrastructure with local key management to combine cyber defense and data sovereignty.
Deutsche Telekom and Palo Alto Networks have announced a joint security platform that combines AI-powered cyber defense with European data sovereignty. The solution stores and processes all data exclusively in Europe and is aimed at organizations in critical infrastructures and regulated sectors.
European enterprises and public authorities must reconcile growing cybersecurity requirements with stricter regulations. The current threat landscape is intensifying: according to the participating companies, the average time between successful system access and data exfiltration has now shrunk to just 72 minutes. This forces organizations to develop faster detection and response capabilities while simultaneously complying with data protection requirements.
The new platform combines Palo Alto Networks’ AI-powered security capabilities with Deutsche Telekom’s infrastructure and security services. Central to the sovereignty model is control of encryption keys: Telekom manages these independently of cloud and software vendors, allowing European customers to retain data control. All customer and system data, including telemetry data and threat intelligence, is stored, processed, and retrieved exclusively within Europe.
The offering goes beyond mere data residency: Telekom acts as an independent control entity, operating identity management, security operations center services, and key management. This creates an additional European trust layer that operates independently of international technology vendors. The platform was designed to meet requirements from NIS2, DORA, and the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and takes into account not only data storage location but also access traceability and identity control.
At market launch, the solution focuses on public authorities, critical infrastructure operators, and companies from heavily regulated sectors such as healthcare, financial services, and public administration. Expansion to additional customer groups is planned for later.
