Bottom line: Claude Opus 4.8 enables end-to-end autonomous workflows with parallel sub-agents and is available now on claude.ai and all major cloud platforms.
Anthropic releases Claude Opus 4.8, which brings improved judgment and longer autonomous work capability compared to its predecessor version 4.7. In parallel, a faster variant launches in Research Preview with 2.5x higher speed at one-third of previous costs.
Claude Opus 4.8 was released today and remains at the same price as Opus 4.7. The model offers improved judgment capability and increased transparency regarding its own performance limits, but most importantly enables longer independent work phases than its predecessors. When used in Claude Code, complex tasks such as function development, data migration, or bug fixes can be delegated while processing continues.
In parallel, a Fast Mode variant of the model is being introduced today (Research Preview). This variant offers approximately 2.5x faster processing and costs about one-third of standard pricing. For CTO teams with high throughput needs, this can increase infrastructure efficiency, especially for routine tasks such as code reviews or documentation generation.
Also in preview are Dynamic Workflows for Claude Code: the model can launch hundreds of parallel sub-agents in a single session and validates results before delivery. This enables orchestrated multi-stage processes without manual interim management. A new Effort Control on claude.ai allows users to regulate the intensity of AI thinking depth per query – relevant for balancing quality and latency. The model is available immediately on claude.ai, the Claude Platform, and all major cloud providers.
