The AI Models Shaking Washington: What You Need to Know

The bottom line: New AI models from Anthropic and OpenAI possess revolutionary hacking capabilities that exceed all security expectations. Experts warn of massive dangers to global infrastructure and national security.

Anthropic and OpenAI are presenting AI models with unprecedented hacking capabilities. Security experts warn of drastic consequences for global infrastructure, while government agencies are desperate to gain access.

The latest artificial intelligence models from Anthropic – Claude Mythos – and OpenAI – GPT-5.5 – have attracted intense attention this month. Palo Alto Networks confirms: these systems are even more powerful than expected. Lee Klarich, Chief Product Officer at Palo Alto Networks, describes Mythos as an absolute “game-changer” for cybersecurity.

Anthropic announced that Mythos has already identified thousands of critical security vulnerabilities – across all major operating systems and web browsers. The concern is significant: if such tools fall into the wrong hands, it could have catastrophic consequences for the economy, public safety, and national security.

Nine leading cybersecurity experts report consistently: the development of these AI systems is progressing faster than anticipated. Isaac Evans from Semgrep reports that Mythos exceeded their expectations – particularly in exploit generation. Jonathan Trull from Qualys describes GPT-5.5 as capable of “doing what a highly qualified app security engineer can do.”

Some experts compare the threat to the 2020 SolarWinds hack, which affected over 18,000 organizations worldwide. Mythos is said to be able to bypass Apple’s MacOS security in just days – something that was long considered particularly difficult.

Government agencies, banks, and supervisory authorities are now pushing harder for access to these models in order to protect their networks before adversaries misuse this technology for cyberattacks.
