Microsoft Resolves Update Issues in Isolated Windows Networks

On the Point: Microsoft confirms Windows Update error in isolated networks with error code 0x80010002. Affected systems cannot download updates from March onwards. A Known Issue Rollback update is to resolve the problem.

Microsoft confirms errors in Windows Updates in secured network environments. Affected systems receive error code 0x80010002 and can no longer download updates from March onwards. The company provides a workaround.

Microsoft alerts customers in restricted network environments to update errors that occur after installation of optional pre-release versions from January 2026. In isolated or strictly firewalled networks, affected systems display error message 0x80010002 when running Windows Update.

The company explains: “Affected devices can download the February security update, but then lose the ability to update from March, April, or later updates via the Windows Update settings.” The cause lies in modified download timeout requirements and is not due to security issues.

Until a complete solution is available, Microsoft recommends IT administrators use the Known Issue Rollback (KIR) feature. For Windows 11 26H1, update KB5083806 is required; for Windows 11 24H2/25H2 and Windows Server 2025, update KB5083631. Devices must be restarted after installing the Group Policy.

This is not the first update issue of this kind. In April 2025 there were errors with WSUS installations, in August a similar error with code 0x80240069 followed. For the May 2026 update (KB5089549), Microsoft also had to provide a KIR fix.
